SDR - Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is.a.lofe changing surgery for children and adults. It's showing great results for children with cerebral palsy as this surgery will permanently remove the spasticity from their legs. It is making wonders with children who is Diplegic CP and GMFCS level with in the range of 1-3.
But my son Pranav has Quadraplegic CP, in which all his 4 limbs got effected. But still we are hoping for the best as we have heard positive review from parents of children who was quad CP and had SDR. They have no regrets for opting SDR for their children as it improved their lifestyle
Pranav had an SDR Assessment recently. At GOSH, London. The Assessment took well and took for about 2-3 hours. It was done by a team of 3, including the physiotherapist. They have checked his spasticity and some physio measurements for his legs. Finally, they have decided he may not be suitable for SDR at this stage, as he is in GMFCS level 4 and with quad CP.
It has been advised to take one more round of Botox for his legs and they want to check his progress after taking Botox.
After Botox, of he continues in improving his strength and improvement in walking they will consider him for SDR.
We are hoping for the best for his better future.
